故JIROX夫人とのやり取りの中で「病いを得たのちに開花させた技術」との言葉があった
病院では3度の食事はトレーにのせられ、毎回決まった食器で提供される。「決まった食器」と、自分では選べない病院食（作品となる材料）。この「毎回決まった食器」「制約」は、逆に毎回の作品を見比べるにわかりやすく、またここで登場するトレーも、「病」を得たからこその偶発的な必然だった。毎回の食事に「遊び戯れる（O JUN曰く）」JIROXの創作物はトレーからはみ出しがちになっていった。医師・看護師から（Twitterを通してご覧になっていた）衛生面の観点から「はみださないよう」注意を受けトレーの中で完結するようになる。画集になって気がついた。トレー、これは「額縁」の作用があり、まさに「病いを得たのちに開花させた技術」であり、「病を得」て、普遍的な絵画に変身した賜物だと思うに至る。
尚、この本の表紙面のピンク色は病院食器のトレーの色。本文中、略歴頁の文字色はお箸の色から。

JIROX 今井次郎
1952年 東京生まれ
ミュージシャン、パフォーマー、造形作家。
2012年11月、悪性リンパ腫により逝去。
PUNGO、コクシネル等、８０年代初頭の伝説的なバンドに参加。以後、複数のバンド、ユニットでの音楽活動を続けた。パフォーマンス演劇団「時々自動」の、1985年結成来の主要メンバーとして長きに亘って出演と作曲を続け、2012年11月に上演された『動物たちの冬』のために病床で書き上げた楽曲を最期に、その曲数は100曲余りにおよぶ。また、病院内で紙片につづった楽譜や絵が残されており、それらの小曲は朋友、向島ゆり子らによって『今井次郎病院作品集とんぷく』（円盤）としてまとめられた。
1990年代末頃からは「JIROX」名義での美術活動がはじまる。日常で使用したもの、身辺のゴミ、生野菜、ポータブル電蓄、MIDI制御の電球などを素材に用いたオブジェ、絵画を発表し、その作品たちをひき連れて都内と周辺のところどころでパフォーマンスを繰り広げた。「JIROX DOLLS SHOW」と銘打った、“真摯なる愚行”ともいうべきそのライブは、時に奇跡のような美しい瞬間を放ちながら、若き表現者たちをインスパイアし、また人々を未知なる愉悦へといざなうものだった。

JIROX / Jiro Imai
Jiro Imai (Born in Tokyo 1952), also known as JIROX, was a musician, actor, performer and artist.
Imai died in November 2012 of Malignant Lymphoma.
Imai began participating with legendary bands in the early 80’s, including PUNGO and. COCKC'NELL Afterwards he continued his musical engagement with several others. Imai was one of the main members of a theatrical performance group founded in 1985 called “tokidoki-jido (Sometime Automatic)”. He was a devoted performer and composer committed to tokidoki Jidou for a long time. Imai's last musical piece titled “Animals’ Winter“ was performed in November 2012, which was actually written while he lay in his sick bed. Imai impressively created more than 100 pieces for the company in total.
There were endless numbers of scores and drawings produced on scrap paper while Imai was treated in the hospital. These were later recorded and released via the Enban (CD & record shop). This work was organized by his friend Yuriko Mukoujima titled as “TONPUKU (Use as Needed) / Hospital Works of Jiro Imai“.
In the late 1990s, Imai started making works of art under the name of “JIROX“. He worked using a variety of materials, especially commonly found objects; such as discarded trash, fresh vegetables, etc. Imai even employed a portable record player and MIDI controlled light bulbs for his performances in various locations within and outside of Tokyo. He labeled these public exhibitions as the “JIROX DOLLS SHOW" − to be intentionally considered as a “sincere act of folly“. Often these exhibits produced a miraculous beautiful moment, inspiring numerous young artists, while tempting many others with undiscovered pleasures.
